Ranbir Kapoor is only getting applauded for his whistle worthy act as Sanjay Dutt in the Sanju trailer. While his fans are obviously going gaga about his performance, even the ones who never liked him are singing some praises. Movie’s director, Rajkumar Hirani was always adamant on casting RK Jr as the lead in the biopic of this Vaastav star. However, producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra felt he wasn’t a good choice really. The producer in his recent interaction with The Telegraph revealed he felt Ranbir won’t suit the role and they should consider casting Ranveer Singh instead. Yup, Ranveer was the first choice of Vidhu Vinod Chopra but Hirani insisted to cast Ranbir only.
Speaking about the same, Chopra said, “It was Raju’s idea to cast Ranbir. When he told me about Ranbir, I wasn’t happy at all. I thought someone else, like Ranveer Singh, could play this role much better. I thought Ranveer had the flamboyance, the emotional depth as well as the ability to change himself completely to play Sanjay Dutt. But Raju was adamant that Ranbir would be perfect. And when we started shooting and Ranbir became Sanjay Dutt, I had to kind of eat my words. I think I can best sum this up by saying that Ranbir has become Sanjay Dutt both in swagger and soul.” Well, there’s no denying that the Rockstar actor has completely justified the role and we can’t wait to see his entire act in the movie that releases next week.
The Munnabhai M.B.B.S producer was also skeptical about making a movie on the life of Sanjay Dutt. He felt Rajkumar and writer Abhijat Joshi had lost their minds to even come up with such a subject. However, when the read the script, he was completely bowled over. “When he (Rajkumar) sat me down and started narrating all that had happened in Sanju’s life, I was stunned! At first, I thought it was hogwash… that Sanju was somehow not telling Raju the truth, but when we started researching all that he’s said — from the 308 girlfriends he had to how he begged on the streets of US for the money to buy a bus ticket — we realized that everything he had told us was true!”
